My family originates from Orkney off the North coast of Scotland, with the family tree traced back as far as the 1600s. The two main towns are Kirkwall and Stromess with many interesting surrounding islands, including Westray.
Off the West coast of Scotland lie the Outer Hebrides, the beaches on the Isle of Harris are some of the best in the world, in my opinion, and usually deserted.
Rathlin Island, is off the North Coast of Ireland, it is only 6 miles long and 1 mile wide, great scenery and a great place to unwind. We stayed at the Manor House.
